question:PSU question

my psu started smelling funny and computer guy said dot use it it will fry mobo. hes gonna fix it but in mean time i pulled the PSU out of an old computer. old PSU has 20 pin atx connecter but my mobo has 24 pin atx main power connecter slot. will old psu work in my computer or not?

It can work, in some cases on some motherboards, but change is not advisable.

No, No, No. Use a 24 pin PSU in a 24 pin application only. Don't do otherwise. If I was you, and my power supply smelled of burning (UP) I would at first, simply replace the PSU with a better one. (You don't have to buy a better one...but you will need it, (in the long run). Everything will probably be O.K.
