RAM problem.

Hello.

Well. I had just recently bought 1gb of RAM [2x 512] But when I put it into my laptop, it only reads as 448 mb of ram. My laptop uses PC2100, and the stick I bought is PC2700 and is backward compatible with PC2100.

Sony Vaio PCG-K45

I've noticed when I only put one 512mb ram inside, it only comes up as 192. The ram is halved, and reduced by my video? [64mb] And same as when I put any chip. When I scan with cpu-z, it only comes up as "PC2700 (166mhz)"

Can anyone suggest anything to get it up to 1gb?

Thanks,
ozfir

The amount of memory set aside for the graphics will reduce the available memory by the same amount, not half. I suspect that your new module is either faulty or the slot is faulty.

A specialist repair shop might be able to help - unless you are trained in PCB repairs I would not go near it! If you are in UK I can give you a name where they do this sort of work
