Ram upgrade possible?

Currently I have 2 pc2100 DDR slots and 256mb in both slots I want to buy a 512mb ram DIMM and was wandering if 256mb and 512mb in the slots would be fine like balance issues and stuff (forgive me if i sound dumb im 15 and am jst startin to learn about computers more) and how much of an increase of speed should i expect by this new set up?

It might work just fine. On the other hand it could cause problems. Buy the 512Mb stick and try it. if you then start to have problems, buy another 512Mb stick.

Make sure whatever ram you get is compatible with your mobo.

Thanx Howard I will buy the ram by next week maybe, for general interest why can different memory capacities cause problems in RAM?

A lot has to do with how picky a mobo is. Some are fairly forgiving, while others aren`t.

Go HERE and have a read of Tedsters ram sticky.
