remove icons from windows taskbar

I'm always confused as to how to get rid of all those annoying and memory-wasting icons on the taskbar. I get rid of some of them by opening them and clicking tools/properties and unchecking the "start when windows starts" checkbox. But what if they don't have that?

By task bar I assume you mean the system tray.

If you click start, then run, and type msconfig into the run box, a window will appear. Click on the startup tab, and untick any programmes that you don`t want to start with Windows.

Once you have finished, click apply/ok. You will be prompted to restart your computer.

After your computer has restarted, a dialogue box will appear telling you that you have used msconfig to make changes etc. Tick the box that says not to run msconfig the next time Windows starts, and click ok.
