Repairing windows xp home edition

I have lost my audio control file(it appears to have been deleted) so I was thinking of using my windows cd to repair the windows os. I have been informed that it is better to reinstall windows as I am likely to get problems if I just repair it.
has anybody any experiance or advice in this matter? I'd be grateful for any comments

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I have run a Windows repair lots of times on my own system as well as other peoples without many problems. The only problems I`ve ever had was the odd driver that would need reinstalling and of course, having to run Windows updates after the repair is finished.

As with any major undertaking, it is wise to backup important data first.
