Resolution is messed up

I was playing around with an emulator and opened a few tabs in Google and suddenly my computer started slowing down. I knew this was because of my computer's weak processing power so I tried shutting down the emulator. Much to my dismay, my computer froze and then a second later it said changed to basic windows drivers. My resolution became way lower. I went to the control panel to change it back when I saw that 1600x900 (my monitor's resolution) wasn't an option. Is there any way to fix this? I'm currently on 1280 by 1024... it's not looking too good.

First, backup any data files you do not wish to lose.

Your description sounds like it might be malware, so I hope you have active Anti-malware and can run it.

Without specifications and more specific information, we can only guess at the problem.

Desktop / laptop? Model numbers? OS installed by who/when? Error codes (like beeps or flashing LEDs)? Error messages? Critical errors and errors listed in Event Viewer (Administrative Tools)? BSOD errors? Mini-dumps? Temperature ranges and voltage ranges for various components (I use HWInfo)?

Can you get to a clean boot? Does that improve things?

When removing emulator, you may have whacked your video driver. Can you go to manufacturers website and get new? Install?

What steps have you taken? Do you have a repair/recovery disk?

The drivers for your emulator have over written / deleted your video card drivers.

Just reinstall the correct drivers
