Just put it all together last night
EVGA 680i
E6600
Asus 7950GT 512Mb
2x1Gb Corsair XMS2
Antec 900 Case
Antec Neo HE 550W
The Case
Antec Nine Hundred
I love this case. It is one good looking case. Not too "gaudy" but still has nice blue lighting. The "grill" look on it is a great touch, but the cooling is absolutely incredible. I can feel a breeze of wind coming from it as I sit beside it. Two 8" fans in the front, one 8" in the back and a huge 12" on the top.
It was not the most user friendly case I have worked with. Recently most cases are moving towards "tool-less" installations but not this one. Small complaint but for example, installing the hard drives into the drive cage took a little effort as the screw holes are placed back behind a gaurd.
The power supply at the bottom of the case makes for some tricky cable management. I still am not happy with my cables. The ATX12v is just long enough to reach the connector, and there is no way to hide it.
Another small complaint, they didn't give me enough standoff pins for my motherboard, I was one short.
EVGA 680i Motherboard
With all the people having troubles on this board, especially the SATA bug, I was hesitant to go with this board, but decided to go for it anyways. So far, I am glad I did. I updated my bios right away, and got it up and running on my first try.
The standard drivers wouldn't let me install sound. After installing the drivers there was no sound hardware found and I had an unidentified PCI device in my device manager. I had to manually install the drivers, but it eventually worked for me.
The first thing I did was update the bios, as there are many known issues with this motherboard and the bios update cleans most of them up. Other than the small sound device glitch, I have had no problems at all. In fact, it was a very easy setup. I have yet to dive into this boards overclocking features, but that is the next step. The options in the bios are a little overwhelming at this point!
Asus 7950GT 512Mb
This card had a great price here in Japan, and I decided to grab one and wait a bit before going to a DX10 card. I think this one will hold me over for a while. I am getting about 50fps average running at 1920x1200 on high settings for Company of Heros. My only complaint about this card so far is the noise. It is quiet when idle, but once the fan kicks in, it is the loudest part of my system.
E6600 Core 2 Duo
Previously I had been running an overclocked (2.75Ghz) Athlon 3700+. The jump to this cpu is huge. The difference is immediately noticable in bootup times, and especially in multitasking. I am running a virus scan now, and it is not even noticable. The stock cooling on it is surprisingly quiet and effective.
Dell 24" Widescreen
I remember the first time I went from a 17" to a 19". I swore I would never go back. I am in the same position again. 24" is a must for gamers. It'll change your gaming world, and the dell 24" is beautiful. Very high quality, and a great price.
