Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra helps stop bullet from hitting Ukrainian soldier

WTF?! Not for the first time, a piece of tech has been (partly) credited with stopping a speeding bullet and potentially saving someone's life. A Ukrainian soldier's Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and its case, in combination with a dog tag, managed to stop a 7.62 round in the war-torn country.

As NotebookCheck reports, war correspondent @Osinttechnical tweeted a video of a Ukrainian soldier showing his smartphone with the bullet embedded in the case.

We can't see the phone in the video, but the case is believed to be the S-View Flip Cover Case for the Galaxy S20 Ultra. A Twitter user translated the video, revealing that the soldier said his phone cost around $675, further suggesting it is an S20 Ultra.

The soldier credits both the phone and a dog tag for saving his life; it seems pretty certain that the Galaxy S20 Ultra and its case wouldn't have been able to do the job alone. Still, it's an impressive showing from Samsung's former flagship, which did pretty well in the JerryRigEverything durability tests a few years ago.

This isn't the first instance of bulletproof phones. Way back in 2016, a former Nokia executive claimed that a Nokia 301, first released in 2013, saved a man in Afghanistan by stopping a bullet.

In other bullet-stopping news, there were reports earlier this month of a Razer headset that deflected a bullet while being worn by an 18-year-old from Torrance, California. The projectile came through the glass of his window, ricocheted off the Razer Kraken headset, and was deflected into a wall before falling onto his bed.

If only the entire Ukranian army, air force, Azov Battalion, runways and everything else had a Galaxy S20 strapped to them.

Has anyone explained to the Ukranian army that posting to social media/ Tik Tok pretty much tells the Russian forces exactly where you are?

I am surprised that the battery did not explode when the bullet hit it. It is funny that the country is at war and the soldiers carry their mobile phones along in combat. They need phones to call for air strikes?

Mostly for playing games and browsing. 99% of the socalled soldiers rather want to be at home.

They are too busy taking pictures on their phones and sending it on social media to tell people of the destruction and death. I don’t know what sorts of war they are fighting to be honest.

They are destroying their country, ironically they are helping achieve Putin's plan.
I feel for Ukrainians, everyone is aiming at the destruction of their country, Putin, their own army, Nato (experts in the matter) and their imbecile president.

If he had an Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB it would've deflected the bullet back to the shooter.

We've got a mix of international folks in here. Opinions are gonna be open to the public. I have friends in both Ukraine and Russia, so this war is something I'm keeping close tabs on. If you route for death and destruction, I can see right through your soul... because I'm a redhead and don't have one of my own.

Yes, Ukrainians know that posting to social media directly from the front line is deadly.
Actually, Ukrainians, unlike russians, win the propaganda war outside russia - russian authorities cannot even admit to their own people that they are 'invading' Ukraine.
Ukraine bought a dedicated western military communication equipement.
It seems from the reports that russia doesn't even have a working encrypted communications and use either phones or unencrypted walkie talkies. That's why their generals die like flies - They are on the front lines or give away Their position through simple triangulation. Very much like russian trolls here give away Their allegiance to mother russia, by demeaning Ukrainians fighting for Their freedom and lives.
The amount of russian paid trolls here is amazing anyway.

They didn't win, everyone is biased against Russia and China in most western countries.
When the US (the biggest terrorist country in the world) does the same atrocities nothing happens, no sanctions, no one is tried for war against humanity.
Philistines and hypocrites like you fall for the propaganda of Western media. Fortunately, they are decent people who acknowledge the suffering of everyone including Ukrainians, Syrians, Yemenis, Irakis, Afghans... Etc and condamn all perpetrators, Russia, US, Israel, Saudi Arabia and anyone else.

Your little russian brain can only repeat propaganda slogans your masters in kremlin came out with decades ago? Poor you. Do they pay well, at least?

For Techspot admin: russian are actively using your site to spread misinformation about active genocide, are You going to do something about It other then remove my posts? Those orcs cannot even hide their bias against western world, yet are coming here to comment on their favorite American toys.

Phones have proven to be vital. From GPS, to cameras, to communication.

As far as is known, the soldiers of the Russian regular army do not carry cell phones, it is prohibited to them. Those who do use them, since they seems no to be bound by this regulation, are the soldiers of the separatist regions and the Chechens. Of course, there are always exceptions that break the rules.

and of course they have encrypted communications, perhaps not enough for all the troops. perhaps mainly special and elite troops, and some shock units. at least I have read from specialists that the tactical missile artillery units communications are completely encrypted, and of course, the navy and aviation

In addition, these "communications captured by radio amateurs or the Ukrainian army" must be taken with a good bit of salt, in the midst of a gigantic campaign of disinformation and propaganda by all the parties involved, since very well many may be fakes, having on the ukrainian side people who can speak russian properly. This is not something like an Afgani or Iraqi speaking broken English to do something similar.

but now it has been seen that the Russian army has deployed in recent days some high power and range EW units, to detect, track and block/disrupt communications, radio guidance and GPS, which can mean that fewer current images or info will come from the combat zones.
