Sata hard drive and on-board audio problem

Any ideas?

I've an ASRock K8Upgrade-1689 board with on-board SATA controller which works fine with my SATA hard drive until I disable either the on-board LAN or Audio in the BIOS. The hard drive then mysteriously becomes invisible to the board. Bit scared of flashing the BIOS but will be brave if it's a good idea!

I think the reason you have not recieved a response to this is it is a very strange problem.

If it were me, which is not (but could have been!), I would go for the BIOS flash.

As long as the power doesn't go out or you have faulty hardware, it should work just fine. Many boards these days offer some form of flash protection, which makes a nice safety net in case something happens.

Had a stiff drink and flashed the BIOS! No problem, and can now disable the audio and LAN with no complications. Thanks for your help
