Sata Hd

I am helping my son inlaw set up a new mother board (AUSU P5B-E). In setting up an SATA HD is there anthing specil I need to know? I have have done this many times with IDE HD and have never had a problem. We are installing XP PROFESSIONAL. The installing went fine and was runnig ok. I install a video that did not have microsoft approvial seal and later when I uninstall it windows wouldn't run. I reformated the drive and tried to reinstall windows and now when it getts to progress page showing it is installing the drivers it shuts down and restarts the install all over again, and does this over and over.
