SB LIVE - manually controlling speaker setup

I switch my soundcard between 5.1 and headphone setup quite a lot, and am sick of using the Surround Mixer to do this.

As such I am contemplating writing a small taskbar program to automate this task on a one click basis.

My question. I have discovered what all the registry settings I need to set are. However setting the registry alone does not alter the speaker setup. I suspect the file EMU10kx.ini in Windows\System32 also needs to be altered. Unlike most .ini files, this file is not ascii. I could go into the hex of it, but don't really want to. Can anyone offer any pointers to me in modifying this file (if this is the file that I need to modify!)

I think it's not about the ini file. The Surround Mixer just doesn't check the registry for the updated values and doesn't write the new information to the soundcard. You need to use some windows API function or some function from the creative programs to force updating of sound settings on the card itself.
