screen probs

Hi i have a problem with my toshiba satallite m70. The screen has virtical stripes on it. there are 4 blocks of inch and a half wide. when i change the colour quality from 32 bit to medium 16 bit the stripes get bigger about 3 inches wide. you can still see through them but you can see them there. I have tried connecting to a external moniter and its the same so its not the lcd screen. Do you know what this problem is ? and how do i fix it ? any ideas ?

Graphics card failure. Not usually fixable at home so needs to be sent to a professional repair shop. If you are in the UK I can give you a contact.

Sorry forgot to mention since this has happened the options you get when you turn off the laptop, the "hibernate and stand by" have gone!!!!!!!!!
