Serious hard disk problem

i have a 20Gb Seagate, i set it as a slave (40Gb Maxtor being master). when i open "My Computer" it tells me that my seagate still have 5.75Gb of free space but when i browse it i only shows "My Documents" folder and "mydocuments.000" file (i moved My Documents' path to the Seagate drive).what happened? ..and what should i do?

If you've got nothing important on it reformat the drive
use a free 3rd party disk wiper writer to write 0's or 1's to the drive
try sourceforge for the application/program.
Active@ Kill Disk is one such

You could also get speedfan from the downloads section and use it to check out your hard drives S.M.A.R.T. characteristics for any problems!!!

thanks for the reply..
unfortunately, i have important files on my seagate worth 7Gb.. i ran windows checkdisk, it says.. "cannot recover files.. insufficient space.." when i browsed my seagate again, it showed "Found" and "System Volume Information" folders. i found recovered file fragments in the "Found" folder..how can i recover my files..?
