Server cpu v desktop cpu

Has anyone ever tried or do they know if something like a dual xeon cpu would beat a core2quad at something like 3d rendering, given that the rest of the hardware in the pc was as 'similar' as possible?

Its just a casual thought really, not a serious debate.
