Simple memory question

Is it better to run 1 stick of 1g or 2 of 512 in a system.
Just curious

If the the motherboard supports dual channel you wont to use two matched sticks.

Most boards now only have 2 slots,so haveing 2 x 512 makes it more expensive to add more later.You'll have a wasted stick or 2.
Thats the spot i'm in.2 x 512.
1 x 1024 usually costs more then 2 x 512 for some reason.
