Simple Modem Question-Please Respond

So, I have this very nice router. A linksys one that broadcasts N through my entire house, almost top of the line. I have cable internet but when my brother and I both play COD 4, one of us either Grey screens or crashes. The modem we have is just the slandered one the cable company gave us. Would a new modem help our router reach its full capacity?

update the firmware on the router and the wireless card drivers on each PC.

then use cp->Admin Tools->Event Viewer to find errors under SYSTEM
