Sims 2... HELP PLEASE!

I'm so confused.
I know, I know.
I read the thing posted up there^
about reading before posting anything about Sims 2.
The only problem is, is that I really do not understand
some of it. So, I get lost.
Please help.
I keep getting the dialog box when trying to run the game about direct x.
It's so frustrating, I just want to play the darn game.
Your help would be appreciated GREATLY.

what exactly is your problem with the game?
does it not run?
run choppy?
you mentioned directX, what version do you have?
