Slow PC and Huge Processor activity.

I'm running P4 2.0 GHz, ASUS P4S533 mother, 256 RAM, Gforce4 128 MB running Win XP Pro SP2 up to date.
PC is real slow. For instance, if I play music using WMP (11) I will sound slow and skippy and processor will go up to 100% and stay around 50%. If I open a program while playing music it will load REAL slow. Games are imposible to play.
I performed full scans with Norton 2005, Ad-aware, Spyware Doctor, One Button Checkup, erased all temp files, defragmented with Diskeeper and NOTHING. Task Manager shows no suspicious processes running. The thing is total memory used by processes does not add up to reported memory use (adding all processes gives a total of about 50 MB (I know is low) but total memory used reported by TaskManager is 200 MB, a HUGE difference). Thought about a memory leak or a hidden process, Security Task Manager didn't show anything unusual. Still I feel there is something there, that I can't see.
I know 256 is not a lot of memory, but everything always worked fine. Formatting everything won't work since I did it about a month ago.
In safe mode it seems to work fine.
The interesting thing is that welcome sound on startup (which takes looooong) sound bad and skips. Goodbye sound when closing Windows sounds just fine!! By this I guess is a software issue, but can't tell which one. Killing processes one by one didn't help me... Any ideas or suggestions?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I apologize for the long post, just tried to be as detailed as posible.
Thanks,

Miguel

Windows Media Player is your problem. Get WinAMP or just about any other music player to play music.

Mictlantechhtli, thanks for the response. Didn't work though. I removed WMP, still doesn't work. Everything takes too much processor, not just music playback. Welcome sound sounds bad, goodbye sounds just fine. Killing processes one by one didn't help me identify what caused this. I'm starting to remove software one by one. If anyone's got a better idea (pretty sure there has to be one) PMLK.
Thanks for the help,

Miguel

SNGX1275, tried updating sound drivers but didn't work. I dont think its a sound related problem. Slow sound is just a simpton. Performance overall is degraded.
Thanks anyways.
