Snap this week will report its quarterly earnings for the first time as a publicly traded company. Ahead of that report, Snap on Tuesday announced a couple of significant changes to the ephemeral messaging platform that you may want to take note of.

Up to this point, those sending Snaps get to choose how long a message remains visible after being opened by the recipient (between one and 10 seconds). A new option introduced today allows a Snap to be viewed indefinitely should the sender desire to do so. Once the message is closed, however, it’ll self-destruct as usual.

Similarly, the new Loop tool allows a video to play back time and again until the viewer closes it.

Elsewhere, Snapchat users will find that the app’s creative tools have been reorganized – moved from the top of the app to the right-hand side on the preview screen. There’s also a new Magic Eraser tool (located under the Scissor tool) which is more or less a mobile take on Photoshop’s content-aware fill tool. As The Verge notes, rubbing the eraser tool on an object will intelligently fill it in with the surrounding background.

Snap said the changes allow them to continue evolving the Snapchat service and help to provide a foundation for introducing even more creative tools in the future.
