Solved:whataboutadog.com...need help please

Hi all!
I'm new to all this and have no idea what to do. I sure could use some help. I noticed about a week ago my internet was extremley slow. Also when I checked my internet history I came across this:

if you click on it, it will take you to a blank screen. Right now my internet takes a good 6-7 minutes to load. I did a little research and found out I picked up a trojan somewhere. I ran Find AWF.exe and Hijack this and have attached the results.


Please anyone out there who can help me I would be deeply indebted to.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is infected with a trojan called Downloader.Agent.awf. It replaces legitimate files that are common on most computers with an infected file. Then, it moves the legitimate files to a bak or backup folder.


Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go HERE and follow the instructions exactly.

Then, post the requested log files.

Ok, lets try this.

Right click on this link DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards. NOTE: This script will delete any sites you may have added to the Trusted Sites. So if you want them back, you have to add them back to the Trusted Sites again.

Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool. Then, do the following
Select "option #2 - Restore files from bak folders" by typing 2 and press Enter .
A text file will open up. Please copy/paste the following text from the quote box (all except the word QUOTE) into the text file.

"C:\Program Files\American Airlines DealFinder\bak\American_Airlines_DealFinder.exe"
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\bak\iTunesHelper.exe"
"C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\bak\ctfmon.exe"
"C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\bak\Weather.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak\realsched.exe"

Close the .txt file and click Yes to save the changes.
When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad. Please post the results of the awf.txt in your next reply as an attachment.

Please double-click the FindAWF icon once again
This time we are going to remove some folders.


Use the following option: Press 3 then Enter to remove bak folders


A text file opens called: folders.txt
Click below the line and paste the following list of folders to be removed:

C:\Program Files\American Airlines DealFinder\bak
C:\Program Files\iTunes\bak
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bak
C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\bak
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak

Next, close and click Yes to save the changes.

When done with the above, FindAWF automatically runs a new scan and opens a new log that you need to post.
Please provide the new FindAWF log

That`s now clean.

To finish, run Option 4.

Double-click the FindAWF icon once again.
Use the following option: Press 4 then Enter to reset domain zones


When the program returns to the main menu, use the following option:
Press E then Enter to EXIT

Now, in the interests of making sure your system is clean, please do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as Attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.

Ok I've read all instructions....downloaded all.....scaned all and now I'm attaching my logs.

My fingers & toes are crossed as well!

Oh and Panda Antirootkit found nothing

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT and reboot your system.

Other than the above, your log files are clean.

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Hello

I fixed the problems with HJT....alls well.

However when I went to start - run and typed in ComboFix /u I get a message that says "windows cannot find 'ComboFix'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and yhen try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

I ran a search and found it.....what am I doing wrong?

I don`t know why that has happened.

Do the following instead.

Delete Combofix and all it`s folders.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

Thank you ever so much for the help. You are a gentleman and a scholar. I had to go out of town over the weekend so I wasn't able to log in from my home pc. I did however log in to Techspot from a different computer several times the last few days. Each time I did, there you were helping someone new with their problem! You are fantastic!
