Sound becomes loud from time to time. Any ideas?

Ok, I have this really annoying problem with my sound on my PC.

I'll be listening to anything, could be music, a video, playing a game, anything... and all of a sudden, my sound will get REALLY REALLY loud, almost to the point where my speakers could blow. Then it will go back down to normal after about 10 seconds, and the back up again. Sometimes when this is happening, I can even turn my speakers all the way down and still hear sound as if I didn't even turn them down.

Please help guys, i've been having this problem for awhile now and can't find a solution.

Test your speakers first. Try them in another system. Or try some other speakers in your system to see if the same thing happens.

If you find that the problem is with your system (not the speakers) then first try updating your drivers for the sound chip. Let us know how it goes!

Sometimes when this is happening, I can even turn my speakers all the way down and still hear sound as if I didn't even turn them down.

Then it must be speakers, in fact the volume control part.
