Sound card not recognized?

I just bought a friend's 6 month old laptop, but the sound card doesn't seem to be recognized. First, Windows Media gave me the message "Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding." When I checked the "Device Manager>Sound, video, and game controllers" it listed Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, and Video Codecs.

System info:
Toshiba Satellite A105-S2051
version PSAA2U-049018
serial # 36317718Q

Motherboard:
ATI SB450
Rev. 0.4b

chipset:
ATI RS400/133 Host Bridge

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this?

Perhaps the drivers are bad? Drivers are small programs that lets the hardware communicate with windows.

Go to Toshiba's website and download the latest ones.

Have the same problem and no, no the drivers, seem like a conflict betwen the HDsound driver and the PCI Bus, tried everything, no success....any clues?
