Sound Problems IBM NetVista 6830

Hello,
I am helping my son work on his IBM NetVista 6830 computer, it first had XP on it that was not authentic (I think thats the term). It was also loaded heavily with viruses and spyware. I got rid of those and ended up taking the computer back to win98, it runs pretty good but now we have no sound.
It list no playback device also. I do have Everest downloaded and can send a Report to help diagnose the problem. Which report do I need to attach? (All pages, Hardware, etc??)

You'll need to install the drivers for it.

Look at the Device Manager {Control Panel/System/Hardware} and see what else has an Exclamation mark - these require drivers as well.

Visit IBM Website, download & install the ones you need.

No yellow exclemation marks, also I have been on the IBM site and downloaded what I thought was the approriate drivers but still no sound. Would posting an Everest report help?
