Spider-Man Remastered GPU Benchmark: 1080p, 1440p & 4K Test

Apparently, my 3080 is being held back by my i7-8700K (6 core). I am only getting 60 FPS with dips to high 40s running High Quality + High Ray Tracing. (DLSS fixes this of course but I want all the FPS)

Yes that is for sure.

This game uses more than 6 cores and even the i7-9900K also sees some bottlenecks. I think this is the first game I've seen where Coffee lake struggles abit.

What about the fact if was originally made for a platform that is AMD APU based?
Completely different on how it was optimized for either platform. I am pretty sure if Nvidia would not have gotten their hands in there messing with the game or at least telling the game dev where to make changes so it runs to be optimized for Nvidia hardware the game would have been able to run a lot faster on all GPU's on the PC that can handle the game easy enough.

Give it a driver release & AMD will make tweaks to their drivers to bypass Nvidia's tweaked for nvidia GPU's mess and it will run faster on RDNA hardware like it is supposed to. I am also thinking that the optimization for Nvidia hardware really does not mess with older AMD GPU's all that much because on RX 500 & Vega GPU's it seems to be running just fine.

Well unless in AMD's drivers that have performance fixes for their hardware makes it faster on all AMD hardware but I would not think the game could get much faster on my Vega because it is already plenty fast enough & for that matter it's more than fast enough to play on any of the mid to high end GPU's tested in this review.

First off thanks for all the hard work Steve must have taken you quite a few days of testing and then writing a review and then video editing for YouTube.

The RX 6800 XT should give close to double the performance of the PS5 which has 36CU's Vs 72 on the 6800 XT.

I have a 3060ti so I'm happy to see this game runs well on my card but I'm a bit upset to see how strange the Radeon cards are considering that in CGN card days some console heavy ports ran better on GCN Tahiti cards than Fermi, giving that AMD fine wine 🍷 slogan.

I think what's really strange that to say this is a Nvidia sponsored title the RX 580 smashes the 1060 6GB which proves it was the better card of its day but it could also be down to drivers not being optimised for Pascal.

I think this game will get better over time when DirectStorage is hopefully implemented to take advantage of GPU decompression and streaming of assets from SSD storage.

I was wondering if you could do testing on the differences on the upscalers, I've heard DLAA is pretty nice looking but doesn't work with DRS.

I'm cheap now when it comes to things. I save up and only pay for what can be paid off within 30 days so that I can capitalize on CC points. Hell, I've made quite a bit of money using my CC. If I can't pay something off in 30 days, I don't buy it.

That's a lie. My car just made me eat my words, same with my house. :(
I'll never understand why people buy new cars using finance or lease new cars. In the UK as soon as a new car has driven off the dealerships land it's lost 20% of it's value.

I never buy new. It has to be at least 3 years old, and if possible certified used so I get the warranty.

Depends on the vehicle

4wd pickup trucks in the US for example:
when I was truck shopping I could get a few yr old loaded used one for $30-35k or a brand new mid trim one for $40k

I bought new and never looked back. I also live in the rust belt so used vehicles get trashed after only a few yrs too

Well in case you hadn't already known this before hand, the 6400 is steaming POS and an utter embarrassment for AMD. As I said when I saw the specs this will be a 720p card at best. 576p with ultra settings. Well done AMD.

It's that bad yet it's still faster than its competition. So well done AMD. And Nvidia. And Intel.

All the AMD’s are underperfoming in this test.

the 6400 is by far the best Price/perfomance of any single slot solution
Its working amazingly well to boost my Batocera powered retro gamer to 1440-4k on EVERY console except ps3

Same. I had thought it would be a while longer before you needed more than 6 cores for gaming.

I wonder if a game patch could fix it. It's a shame to be so close to not needing DLSS. I have a CPU/MOBO I could swap in but that's more work.

There are still quite a few things to fix so we may see them lighten up the cpu burden in a future patch. GOW PC which is also a sony release saw many patches to get where it is today.

I may have to break down and put my old 3900X in the living room PC.

One finding shows significant gains when smt disabled even great performance at 6/6 as well as 8/8 cores/ threads FYI

I've read that link.

I'm waiting for techspot do to their own cpu scaling benchmarks in this title.

Funny how people still draw conclusion on one benchmark. They still don't get that every game is different and that it takes some time for drivers to get updated ? The only way to judge a cards performance is by looking at as many benchmarks as possible.

I fear by the time AMD 'fix' their performance, all the hype will have blown over and there will be another game in the spotlight, unlikely Steve will retest all GPU's especially after the massive demand to do CPU's too.

Playing phenomenally and looking stunning on my 5900X+3080+LG C2, DF optimised settings at 4k + DLSS quality, just what I needed for a stunning and engaging world to escape into.

The game plays fine for me on a 5800x+6800XT 3440x1440 Very high + Ray tracing high no upscaling.

It depends. If you keep your car a long time, then it doesn't matter that it loses 20% of the value because by the time you sell it, the value is as low as it's going to get. Warranties are one reason to buy new, but you can get warranties on certified pre-owned too.

For some people, leasing can be considered a business expense and written off on your taxes. And, with the way car pricing has been over the past 2 years, you can get a good price for your used vehicle. We sold a Mazda SUV, which we bought new, for about 70% of what we paid for it and that was after 6 years of use. We used that money to buy an new Mercedes SUV, when the warranty runs out on that one, we will likely trade that for something else.

It really all depends on what you need a car for. We use ours for business so buying new is better for us, no unreliable cars to deal with and any major repairs are covered under warranty.

The numbers dont tell the whole story, not by a long shot with this title.

the game is choppy as hell while playing it, my rig 5600x, 6800xt, 32gigs ram, nvme and its not smooth while swinging through the city at 1080p.

I played the game originally on a ps4pro and it was buttery smooth for 30fps, the pc version really shows how well optimized it was for that console,

as someone who bought the pc version day1 I would say to wait until they fix whatever is going on with the game while swinging through the city, thats the games best part and as of right now its just not up to par with the ps4 imo.
Similar rig with same cpu memory nvme and a 3070ti and it's smooth as butter. Very high settings 4k (dlss quality) or even higher at 1440p w/ rt on high

Actually a 3060 Ti was able to match a 6950XT so you know something is not right when that happens. It tells me AMD needs to optimize their drivers for this game more. I seen that Nvidia had worked with the game Dev and playstation to optimize the game for their GPu's infact it's on Nvidia's site posted by them on how proud they were about working on the game to perfect it for their own hardware.

This tells me why AMD cards were hamstrung in this game at least for now until AMD figures out how to unravel the crap Nvidia got put in there to make their hardwar shine and AMD hardware suck in this one game. As I said when a 3060Ti is able to match a 6950XT you know something is not right in GPU land as this should never happen considering the 6900XT &6950XT are leaps and bounds faster than a 3060Ti.

I am surprised that Steve Walton never picked up on this or mentioned it in the write up he did.

Can we please not pretend like "sponsored by" games haven't been a thing for decades and AMD hasn't been doing the exact same thing themselves for years.

They may not have worked "as closely" but they've been given plenty of chance to optimize and even amd themselves said they did so as well.

Yea I know it hurts sometimes to see the thing you put all your worth into not performing as you would hope but please get over it... Steve is doing what he's supposed to amd even though you call him "unbias" I've always actually seen him leaning into making his testing gp as best for amd as he could... It just happens that in this big game that he knows he must test for the views (and money) he can't really do any kind of white washing to make things look better for AMD... Even the guys who have hated on ray tracing since day 1 can't deny its benefits here and Nvidias (obvious) lead in its ability to use it.

Sure amd will improve their drivers (so will Nvidia) and things may change a bit in the rankings later but that's NOT how testing is supposed to be done... They are SUPPOSED to give you the results as they are and what a buyer buying the game now should expect.

What you're aako g for is EVEN MORE white washing of the numbers to make sure yore precious favorite doesn't look too bad.

I'll never understand why people buy new cars using finance or lease new cars. In the UK as soon as a new car has driven off the dealerships land it's lost 20% of it's value.

I never buy new have only ever financed one car in my life and the loss I experienced made me say never again.

I've been buying my cars from auction for years and have on multiple cars sold it 4 or 5 years later for almost as much as I paid for it.

A car payment is the biggest waste of money one can do besides straight gambling.

I never buy new. It has to be at least 3 years old, and if possible certified used so I get the warranty.

Even that is a waste to me I've bought my cars cash at auction for years and at most spent a few hundred bucks fixing "issues" people thought were "not worth it" because they figured they'd be much harder problems to fix.

Because I've paid so low compared to value at the time I drive them for years and end up selling for basically what I paid for them and do it again.

Just did it a couple weeks ago got a car 4 years newer and in excellent shape for roughly half it's book value and sold my old car for $500 less than I originally paid for it.

No one cares about single player gaming. 1999 called, they want their pre-internet games back. If it's not competitive and sweaty why bother? I'm a dinosaur in videogame land (41 years old) and even I don't waste my time with this ****.

It's a sentiment I see a lot online, acceptable one way but not the other, go figure. This one seems to have a lot of people riled up, because at least in part the results bucks a few 'trends' that they were enjoying, like AMD cards benefitting from console development, AMD cards having less CPU overhead, AMD cards outperforming Nvidia at low resolutions and so on. AMD might 'fix' this, they might not.

I tried disabling Hyper-Threading and it turned portions into a slide show of stuttering frames (8700K & 3080).

I did realize the worst dips are swinging fast through the city. The dips are not as bad (~55 FPS vs ~47 FPS) walking at street level (I had missed this was how Steve benchmarked).

The data doesn't show that, single player story games is why PS4 was more successful than Xbox one.
