Does anybody else like this idea?:

An auxiliary station to your cell phone, using the same account and number (hopefully with no extra charge) that plugs into a wall socket with a DC power brick in between, and a backup battery for power outages.

It would be strictly a voice call device. It would ring on an incoming call. There would be a base with a handset cradled in it. The handset would be connected by a cord (hopefully a straight rather than a coiled cord.) The handset would resemble a traditional landline handset but it would have a music fidelity headphone-type speaker in the earpiece and a microphone of voice recording quality. (Hopefully cellular providers will provide improved voice call quality.)

Please bear in mind that I envision this mainly for people who work long hours at their desk and for older people who want to dispense with their land line. The user would not have to remember to charge the device, they would enjoy improved call fidelity, and exposure to microwave frequencies would be lessened.

I Googled the idea after I wrote the post and of course the concept has been thought of and implemented, but I'll leave the post as is because it presents some improvements.
