Hi, am receiving this System Shutdown error message: c:\\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe - status code error 1073741819.

I have read others with the same problem on this forum. Here's what i've done, I hope someone can advise what I can do next. The forum helped me 3 yrs ago with a frustrating problem, I look forward to the help again. Thank you, Marcy1987.

1. virus scan - no viruses found

2. downloaded & ran Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool check - no items were detected.

3. ran Lavasoft Ad-aware - detected 51 tracking cookies & a few registry items that were removed.

The log doesn't show any malware.

Try running this. It has a very large trojan database.

Download SUPERAntispyware Free Edition

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
* It will ask if you want to Update the program definitions, click Yes.
* Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
+ Close browsers before scanning
+ Scan for tracking cookies
+ Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
+ Please leave the others unchecked.
+ Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
* On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
* On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
* Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
* It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
* To retrieve the removal information please do the following:
+ After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntiSpyware icon on your desktop.
+ Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
+ Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
+ It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
+ Save the notepad file to your desktop by clicking (in notepad) "File" "Save As"
* Save the log somewhere you can easily find it. (normally the desktop)
* Click close and close again to exit the program.
* Please add the log as an attachment in your post.

That is great that no malware shows up, when I ran Lavasoft adaware, and it cleared off the 51 items that must have cleared the problem. I do note that the error message has not appeared since then.

You should (if not already done) run SUPERAntispyware. It goes much deeper than AdAware and is good to have for an occasional scan.

Toggle System Restore to clear infected restore points

1. Turn off System Restore
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Restart your computer

3. Turn ON System Restore
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

You want to turn off and then turn back on system restore so it will purge the infected restore points.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer

Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.

Help

I am getting the same status code. I ran a virus scan but halfway through, all the desktop icons and programs running disappeared, and now when I try to restart the PC, it says Windows did not start successfully. I am unable to change the start-up mode from start Windows normally and it just keeps cycling through to the same message. I tried using the restore CD, but the keyboard is unresponsive when I get to the boot from CD screen and it all just starts again. I got to the startup menu and according to that, the first boot option is CD ROM but when I got the boot menu up, it said it was the hard drive and the keyboard was again unresponsive. Every solution I have looked at requires me to be able to use my keyboard on one of the three screens where I am unable to. Please, please help...
