STOP error

Computer that I was working on today had the following error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Login Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000409 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

The computer would crash about 14-16 minutes after logging into windows every time.

I was unable to run Spybot, and when I tried to run Windows Defender, I got the following error:
Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba

Virus scan picked up nothing, Checkdisk had no errors.

I thought that overheating might be the problem, because of where they kept the computer, but I put it out in the open and it still crashed after the same time period.

I talked to Dell briefly (machine is a Dell), and the guy said it was a corrupt Windows system file, but couldn't get any further help from him because the machine is no longer under warranty.

Thoughts on how to fix this? Reformatting Windows the only option?
(I do not have access to the computer right now, so I cannot test anything, but I can tell you everything I did.)

Microsoft say the following for the STOP error -

a) Mismatched system files have been installed.

b)A Service Pack installation has failed.

c)A backup program that as used to restore a hard disk did not
correctly restore files that may have been in use.

d)An incompatible third party program been installed.
