Strange printing problem

  1. Hiya,

Having a bit of a strange problem with Word randomly printing.
If you open a document and try to print it, it locks up Word and refuses to print. The print queue shows a document ready to print with a size of 0 bytes. The only way to close Word is through End Task, and then to reopen the same document in Word and it used to print fine. This worked without fail for a while but now that doesn’t work.

The only way to get it to print now is to open an Excel document, try and print it (it won’t print) then cancel the print (Excel doesn’t freeze like Word does), retry the print (prints ok) and then any other document can be printed without problems.

It’s on Windows 98, and I´ve tried Office 2k and XP with the same results.
It's a HP printer, can't remember the model number though.

    Any ideas,
