System idle using a lot of memory?

Sorry if this is posted somewhere else; I couldn't find anything on it. :suspiciou

I just bought and put together my new system and it seem to gobble up a lot of my memory (300 - 400 mb) even at system idle and I was wondering if this was usual. I don't see any running processes or apps in the task manager; system idle at 95-99%.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
MSI K8N Neo Platinum MS-7030
1 gig RAM (2x512 @3200)
Western 250 gig HDD SATA
Maxtor 80 gig HDD
MSI Geforce 6600 GT
NEC ND-3520A DVD+/-RW 16x

Load up msconfig (just type msconfig in the RUN box then hit ENTER). What do you have in the startup tab all the way to the right ?

Look at the process list in task manager. Sort the table by memory usage of processes.
