System won't power on after playing with Hard Drives (I'm an *****. help!)

So, I pieced together a baseline kit for my mother out of some parts from work and some parts left over after i upgraded my system. she started having some problems, so i began by upgrading the cpu from a pII whatever to a pIII 733. (she's only emailing, surfing the web)

anyway, there were some problems on boot-up so i figured one of the drives didn't like the new configuration, and like the ***** I am, I started unplugging them and plugging them back in while the system was still on.

now it's surged with no power.

so, what did i surge? was it the motherboard, powersupply, or do i just have to go piece by piece and try to figure it out?

 Hello & Welcome to TechSpot

If you hotswapped disks, then I'm afraid you'll have to take it piece by piece...

If you get any fans spinning (or any sound out of it) chances are the PSU survived...
Remove the power cable and make sure everything is connected as it should (reseat cables & memory) and power it on. If you're very lucky, it was only a cable or two out of place.
