Tecra 500cdt

I have a Tecra 500cdt. I just bought a 30GB Hard drive for this laptop. So I can install Windows XP on it. I used the Windows 98 SE Bootdisk to boot the cd rom drive. After it does what it do. I try to run Fdisk and I recieve the message No Fixed Disk is present. I then see if i can find someone with the same situation. I read that someone had to get their Cmos to notice their Hard drive. In Cmos on my hard drive I cannot set it to automatically detect the hard drive. Im not sure if it is because of the age of the dos version. Which is 5.6. Can someone help me please. Do i have to upgrade me Bios. Please tell me this hard drive didn't go bad. I just bought it.

the Tecra 300CDT doesn't meet the minimum specifications for XP anyway I'm afraid. It only has a pentium 120MHz CPU, and the absolute minimum spec for XP is a 233 MHz CPU
