I`m An Old Timer Who Knows Nothing
Windows 2000 Pro freezes When i Try To Install The Drivers .

I Have The Original Drivers On Disk.
Have Tried Drivers From The Net.
About 500.??? None Work.

If You Let Windows Sit For About !/2 Hr
It Loads The Drivers . Device Manager
Say No Conflicts Ect BUT:

Try To Reboot Or Shutdown And Windows
Freezes At The Windows 2000 Pro Screen.

And Then It`s GoBack Time To Get Rid Of
Drivers.

I`m Installing The Card For My Scanner
HP Scanjet 5P. Help: Help: Help:
Thanks phill.

Hi Phill and welcome to Techspot.

I have an Adaptec AVA-2906 (same as 2904) SCSII-card in my PC for an Agfa SnapScan 1236S scanner and Plextor PX-W1210S CDRW, running Win2000/SP4 so I can certainly guide you further.

Just having the SCSII-card in your PC, without having installed any drivers, can you boot at all?
Did you try and install the card with the Win2000 built-in drivers?
Click on Start/Settings/Control Panel, doubleclick System, then click tab Hardware, then Device Manager.
Any yellow exclamation marks or red X-marks?
Did you unzip the driverfile onto a floppy, with option "Use folder names"?
Do you use any other SCSII equipment?
Did you just buy that card or did it come with the scanner (how old?).
What is the latest W2K Service Pack that you installed?

If you can answer the above questions, we are already halfway to the solution.

realblackstuff; Thanks for Answering My
Plea. 1 Every Thing Is Fine With The Card
And Booting Until You Install The Drivers.
2 Tried Win2000 drivers And Every Other One I Could Find. none Work. 3, Takes At Least 1/2 Hr To Install Drivers. No Exclamation marks In Manager. 4. No Other Scsi Devices. 5. The Drivers On Floppy Are Origanal Tekram Drivers. 6. The Scsi Card Is About 3Yrs Old. 7. I`m Using Service Pack 4.
Windows Seems To Be Freezing On And Off When Loading Drivers (Mouse Freezing).
All Seems Fine Until You Restart.
Window Will Not Boot Past Win2000
Screen.
Thanks phill.
P.S. Just Love Stout.

Do you mean you can start W2K normally and get into your Desktop, or does the PC want to install drivers halfway during booting?

Before scanners etc. can work you need to install some image-basics first.
In Explorer, go to C:\winnt\inf and scroll down until you find "sti.inf".
Rightclick on that and select "Install"

The current drivers are V3.03, available here:
http://www.tekram.com.tw/SoftwareUpdate.ASP?Product=DC-315U
(near the bottom of that web-page)
Make sure you have the latest.

I assume your SCSII card has ID 7 and the scanner is set to 3 or 5.

After installing sti.inf, reboot and go into "Save Mode" and try and install the Tekram-drivers there.
Then report back.
I will be monitoring this forum once or twice a day only, so bear with me if you don't get an immediate answer.

Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

After All Your Excellent Advice All Is Well.
Every Thing Is Now Running Good.

Thanks Again
