Thermal Paste

I have resently applied new thermal paste to my CPU. But it seems I just made it worse. As now it is running at 53-55.5C, instead of the usual 50C it was at Before.
What could I have done wronge?

See if the heatsink is correctly seated. And make sure you applied the correct amount of thermal paste. For most, it's an extremely thin cover.

what paste did you use? and what cpu/socket do you have?

did you thoroughly clean off all the old paste (or tape) from the CPU and heatsink with isopropyl alcohol before applying the new paste?
