In July we shared a Star Wars fan film that explored a world where those within the defeated Empire continued their fight with the Rebels following the Battle of Endor. Today, we’ve got another excellent short to share.

Stormtroopers are often viewed as dispensable in the Star Wars universe, making it easy to look past the fact that underneath the helmets and armor are actual people. Jakku: First Wave peers into the lives of three Imperial Stormtroopers just before the Battle of Jakku, itself coming just a year after the Battle of Endor.

Unlike the previous fan film, this one isn’t loaded with cutting-edge action sequences special effects. Instead, you get a heartfelt exchange between three men moments before they enter a battle in which we already know the outcome of.

Found is a TechSpot feature where we share clever, funny or otherwise interesting stuff from around the web.

By the time of Ep. 3: A New Hope, most troopers weren't clones but rather poor conscripts or volunteers from backwater planets. Most of them were only motivated by the brutal discipline of their officers and vague promises of rewards at the end of their tours. In other words, if Palpatine had possessed sufficient manpower to keep a larger presence in Hutt space, Luke might well have been raised on stories of how the royals had been overthrown by the liberating forces of the Empire. He could have been one of those poor saps being sent to root out hardened rebels who had survived a dozen or more battles and believed fiercely in their cause. I can't see very many troopers being happy about being sent on such a mission.
