Trojan_Downloader_Conhook...HELP!

Hi,

My laptop is infected with Trojan_Downloader_Conhook that is picked up by my Spy Sweeper scan every morning. Upon detection by Spy Sweeper I delete it and am "free" of it until I reboot my computer. My computer also takes two tries to reboot every morning--the first try it stalls out at the desktop, I close, reboot again, and this time it loads properly. I'm also inundated with repetitive pop-ups that I believe are related to this trojan.

I have run my scans with system restore off as well as with "show all files and folders" checked--nothing helps. No matter what I do it comes back the next morning.

I just added HJT--my log is below...

I would greatly appreciate help with this--I'm getting ready to pull my hair out and throw the laptop out the window :).

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Download the Pocket Killbox programme from HERE. Extract it, but don`t run it yet.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad).Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {c91fa8af-f072-456f-9709-af5376649403} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxswiz.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: fxswiz - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fxswiz.dll

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Run the killbox.exe file. When it loads type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and check the delete file on reboot button. press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, select no until you have finished inputting the files you want to delete, only then allow it to reboot and hopefully your files will now be deleted.

This is the filepath you need to enter into killbox.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fxswiz.dll

Once your system has rebooted, turn system restore back on and post a fresh HJT log. See HERE for instructions.

Howard,

I've posted my latest HJT log below, but it does already seem that my system has been saved from the persistent trojan_downloader:it rebooted no problem on the first try for the first time in days. A thousand thank yous for your time!

No problem mate.

If you ever need to post a HJT log again, please post it into this thread as a .txt attachment. Thanks.

Regards Howard )
