Trouble with Adesso graphics tablet

my Adesso CyberTablet 8600 just started going wacky (the pen just starts moving[not shooting, just moving] off to the side). i haven't changed any settings whatsoever, system or software, and I'm using the same program I've always used (photoshop 7.0). i tried replacing the battery in the pen, but that didn't work, and i know its not because I'm shaky (I'm 17). the attachment shows what happens when i just set the pen down and don't move it. would like to get it fixed fast, have things to do before i go back to college, please help.

P.S. if its a major hardware thing, break it to me gently.
P.P.S. would defragging have messed it up?

Hello and welcome to techspot. i got this off the adesso website from their faqs for their tablets: "The pen cursor jumps when the pen is close to the tablet.

1) Click the tablet icon
2) Click the "Buttons" item
3) Uncheck the "Auto Setting" box
4) Click the "Adjust" item and follow the instructions to adjust the pen."
