Two questions

hi i am new to this forum and have two quick questions.

when trying to run a cable from my WRT54G to my desktop computer, i am not getting internet access on the desktop but the wireless lap top is getting internet fine (hence how i'm posting this question)

secondly when i try to secure the network the router stop broadcasting a signal and I get no signal strength

How is the network configured on the desktop? Run the command "ipconfig /all" and post the output here.

When you secure the wireless network, then you have to change the network configuration on the wifi clients to match. It may be that your router's setup webpage is structured so that it is impossibe to secure the wireless without a wired connection.
