Hello All.

I am looking to upgrade my current Mobo and Processor.

Ideally I am looking to go for a AMD 64 X2 5000-ish CPU and I am a bit lost on a good MSI or Asus (or other) board to get. Need to keep the price down, but would like best possibilities for under 150-200 euro. The machine is mostly used for gaming, but think I am finally ready to drop the 939 and get a AM2 slot board which I hope to upgrade further early next year. Any advice ? Thanks.

Currently using a 3500+ AMD 64 on a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9RH board.

Looking to use the same RAM and video card :

Nvidia Gforce 7900 GT/GTO
2 x 1GB pc3200

Thanks again .

the AM2 platform uses DDR2 RAM, so you'll need to buy new memory as well.

since there isn't a big performance difference between socket-939 and socket-AM2 you may want to just get a faster 939 to hold you over for a while. a dual-core socket-939 Opteron would be a nice upgrade to a single-core Athlon64 3500+.

AM2 is going to be replaced by AM3 soon. also, the release of AMD's "Barcelona" processors will most likely force price drops on dual-core AM2 parts.

if you're set on upgrading immediately then you may be better off going the Intel Core-2-Duo route instead ;)
