USB hard drives

  1. I want to expand the storage on my computer and am considering the USB hard drive option for its mobility. What I want to know is how much slower is it compared to the hard drives attached to the motherboard and if there is any other compromise in terms of capabilities.

    USB 2.0 has a limit of 480Mbps, that's the fastest you can read/write through a USB port. I don't see a lot of reviews of external drives so I'm not sure what the actual throughput it.
