Usb Mp3 player not recognised

My usb Mp3 player stoped being visible to Mac and PC
cant play
power and ind lights correct
may have pulled out while in use
do I need to format? how best to do?
R clk and sel format on pc?

Better format using the player itself (if possible).

thanks but snag is I have no info re formating with the player and its nothing to show.
tried a photo recovery prog that too sees nothing
