If the PC componentry is sending noise through the system board and out the speakers then are the drivers responsible and if so which one - the motherboard, sound card, OS. Does XP contribute to the probelm?

i had that - it could be power cables close to the audio cables or IDE cables

i had that where if i turned my volume ALL the way up and put in acd - i could hear the cdrom giving feedback and reving up.

Why do you double post?

MrGuv is right, you should clean up your wiring first, make sure there are no loose connectors, cables not mingled with power cords etc.

Mute all unused inputs on your audio card.

You should update drivers for mobo and sound card to current ones from manufacturers. For you meaning latest VIA Hyperion from www.viaarena.com.
