VIA EPIA CN Series mainboard embodies VIA’s “embedded made easy” approach, featuring the VIA C7 processor with dual monitor output, DDR2 and extended connectivity for embedded devices

Taipei, Taiwan, 1 June 2006 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced the VIA EPIA CN-Series Mini-ITX mainboards, the latest in the range of VIA C7 processor-based ultra compact platforms boasting an average power consumption of just 16 watts.

With VIA’s hallmark rich integration in the ultra compact Mini-ITX form factor, the VIA EPIA CN mainboard is a flagship example of VIA’s “embedded made easy” philosophy to small form factor computing that enables developers to bring powerful digital media appliances products to market simply and quickly. Initiated with its introduction of the Mini-ITX form factor in 2002, this philosophy has been part of VIA’s proactive efforts to offer more affordable and flexible embedded computing products.

Boasting the highly power efficient VIA C7 processor at speeds of 1GHz or 1.3GHz, along with the VIA CN700 digital media chipset integrating the VIA UniChrome™ Pro 2D/3D graphics with hardware MPEG-2 acceleration, dual monitor support, VIA Vinyl Multi-channel Audio, a PCI legacy port, support for up to 1GB of DDR2 400/533MHz memory and SATA II RAID, the VIA EPIA CN mainboard sets new standards for small form factor innovation.

“The VIA EPIA CN mainboard is a model embedded space workhorse that makes possible rapid development for a wide spectrum of applications,” said Daniel Wu, Head of VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies, Inc. “As the world advances towards a totally digital lifestyle, the role of highly integrated, ultra compact x86 platforms becomes ever more important, and our VIA EPIA mainboards are helping to drive this transition.”

Based on the advanced VIA CoolStream™ Architecture and manufactured using the state-of-the-art 90nm process, the VIA C7 processor together with the VIA EPIA CN mainboard offers a highly energy efficient platform that includes VIA PowerSaver 3.0 technology and reduces memory power consumption by over 50% through DDR2 support to make possible leading performance per watt.
