Video Card for Low-Mid system

Hey all,

I've got my hands on a basic system from work for practically nothing (incorrect build, boss gave me a big discount) which I would like to put a decent video card into it. I am going to give it to my 16 old cousin for his birthday.

The system is as follows (sorry I don't have the finer details on spec):

- MSI mATX 1333 mhz socket 775
- Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6ghz
- 1gig RAM
- ASUS 18x DVD SATA
- CoolerMaster Extreme 550W PSU
- Windows XP Home

It's a pretty basic system, but I thought I could get it reasonably game worthy.

I was thinking about putting in an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB.

What do you reckon? Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.

The X1950PRO\XT would do fine as well. But the 8800GTS 320MB would obviously be better. How much can you spend? Also, where're you located?

Cheers.

I am in Australia. I was hoping to spend no more than AU$350-$400.

I saw the EVGA 8800GTS 320MB for AU$360. I was almost considering putting in a 8800GTS 640MB considering I only spent $200 on the rest of the PC (nice discount!)

I was trying to track down a Radeon HD 2900 Pro 512mb - hard to find!

I'd recommend getting this if it's within your budget. Otherwise, get the 8800GTS 320MB from here instead. It's quite a bit cheaper than the eVGA and is the exact same card.
