Vista Networking Problem

I have a client at a real estate office who bought a new windows vista machine and when he plugs it in to the company network it can see other computers but hits the internet randomly for about five minutes each time. My Vista laptop will connect just fine so Im pretty sure its not a vista problem. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

How an IP address is acquired (eg Manually defined vs dynamically via DHCP)
should have no effect as to the reliability of the link -- lack of reliability is usually
due to other factors. As an example, my DHCP lease has granted me the same
IP address for MONTHS and my access to the Internet is very good.

If I do have a problem -- it's frequently resolved by rebooting the router itself;
maybe twice a year the ISP has a quick outage.

When the ISP is online again or my router is running after the reboot --
I frequently find the same IP address from DHCP.

The sole difference is DHCP vs Static addresses is DNS registration -- giving
your public address a name in the public Internet.

set the address to a static one
sorry -- humbug.
