    I just finished reading that 'When it's smart to outsource' article and it seems to me that those researchers have spent an awful long time, and taken a very round about way, to tell us what we already know. Basically, if you want innovation, then you need to be prepared to pay for it, as no one is going to add value to a software project when the profit margins are low. Developers will only take risks and put in the extra effort when the rewards for success are there (e.g. with future contracts etc.). Nothing new here, those researchers just confuse the issue by wrapping it up in long sentences that talk around, rather than about, the results of their research. I guess the point of 'research' is to provide 'hard written' evidence to back up what we already know.

    PS: Just felt like getting rid of some frustration there (I feel much better now, but I do wish these people would spend more time doing research that was more productive and useful). Please do feel free to ignore my post :=).
