When does GameCube power light come on?

Hi all,

I'm looking into a dead GC. When power is plugged in, the fan comes on, but the "power" light does not.

When does the GameCube power light come on? Does a game disk have to be inserted? Or does it have to be spinning?

Various web searches have not been able to uncover this minor bit of troubleshooting.

i'm guessing it would come on when the console is turned on, unless it has a stand buy light like the PS2 and PS3

The light turns on as soon as you turn on the Gamecube, whether there's a disc or not.
