Hi all,

pure curiosity on my part... where does windows keep the A/V codecs and is there any way to install new ones/uninstall existing ones? (I've gotten a bit bolder in tinkering with my laptop now that I have a backup source) I tried going through add/remove programs and the helper thingy in windows keeps telling me to use the "windows setup" tab in add/remove programs when there is none...

running xp pro, if that helps anything.

Thanks,

If u want to see the codecs installed in ur system, try this:

Start->Run->'devmgmt.msc' (without the quotes) and hit enter.
Now scroll down to 'Sound, video and game controllers' and expand it by dbl-clicking.
Then dbl-click on 'Audio Codecs', and then, in the dialog box that opens, click on the 'Properties' tab.
Here u can see all installed codecs and also remove them.

To install new codecs, I wud recommend the K-Lite Codec Pack.
