You should try a better defrag utility then the one built into Windows.
Auslogics Disk Defrag
Although the Windows defrag works (usually) it seems to be an area they do not put much intrest into. 3rd party applications are faster and usually with fewer headaches.

Yes it is good. It has worked well for me.
I now use IObit Smart Defrag
It has auto defrag so the disk stays optimized. They are both free and good.

I didn't know you only took 3 mins to defrag. My windows defrag never got under probably 20-25 minutes.

cauz there still isnt enough free space.
if you notice, the files that didnt get defragged were movie files that must be quite large.
check a similar thread i created: https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic83011.html
.
bottomline...
the free space is distributed and itself not defragged.
(check that the white spaces are very distributed itself)
so... maybe the largest free space available is (MAYBE) 300mb and the movie file is (MAYBE) 700mb.
so there is still not enough space to defrag these large files.
in other words, if the free space was in one place together, it would be large enough to defrag those movie files.
.
this is just wat i think maybe the reason for your question.

yea..thx for your answer.
now i understand why my defragmenter cannot complete.

almost but not quite. There must be a contiguous set of free sectors to hold
each file,
so even if there's a large amount of free space, not enough of it can hold the
large file in ONE allocation.

A secondary reason for problems is 'unmovable files', which is why a good defrag
needs to run BEFORE Windows is totally launched.

A third issue is the registry files and the pagefile.sys itself; use PagDefrag for
control of these :)

this problem is usually resolved by multiple executions of defrag.

And btw, yes there are better defrag programs than the freebe from windows.
