Win ME: Have to to right click/open to open files on desktop

Hi guys,

My little sister's computer is running on Windows Millenium, we installed it over Win98SE lately but now when I try to click on an icon on the desktop, it's going to let me select it, but it won't open. I have to right click then open to open files on the desktop. Would anyone know what would that be caused by? and how to fix it?

Untill this explanation is finished when I say click on something I mean right click.

What has happened is the mouse buttons have been reversed.

Here is how you can fix it.

Click start point to settings and selects contol panel.

Once you are in control panel double right click on the mouse icon.

Untick the box that says switch primary and secondary buttons and click on apply.

Now you mouse should be back to normal I.E left button to open things.

It could aslo be a problem that your double click rate has been increased significantly. When you are in the Mouse control panel as howard suggested try adjusting the speed at which you need to double click. If it is set too high, you will never be able to do it.
