Windows Boot Problem

Hi everyone,
I have a toshiba satellite pro which has just stopped working. I've been trying to repair it for ages and i've got it as far as beginning to boot in safe mode. It hangs on Arp1394.sys however. I've run as many things as possible. I would reinstall windows but the laptop doesnt have enough free space!! I cant delete from recovery console as its an NTfs system. Catch 22. I know this is sparse on information but i'd be really grateful if anyone twigs what might be goin on. Thanks.

Boot from the XP CD. delete the exisitng partition, create a new partition, then format and install windows.
